Visual Studio 2008 env destroyed after installation

Ok, I attempted to install the IronPython Studio integrated version this morning.

After installing it, the readme said I need to modify my machine.config file.

After modifying it, I could no longer open iron python projects in visual studio 2008.

So I figured oh well it doesn't work, I reverted the changes in the machine.config file and attempted to open a normal VS2008 WPF .csproj and it no longer recognizes this project type either.

After uninstalling all my .Net stuff, VS 2008, IronPython, IronPython Studio, and reinstalling VS 2008 and .Net (up through 3.5 SP1) I still can't open any .csproj projects.

What the hell is going on here????

Ok, after digging around some more I found a solution that works.

The problem:
After installing IronPython Studio I can no longer open WPF projects (.csproj) in Visual Studio 2008.

The error associated with this is:
The project file ‘PATH TO THE PROJECT’ cannot be opened.
The project type is not supported by this installation.

The solution -
Execute the following command in a run dialog:
devenv.exe /resetskippkgs

After running this command I was once again able to open my WPF projects.

My development environment (under which this error arose):
Windows XP
.Net 3.5 SP1 (and everything below that)
Visual Studio 2008
Visual Studio 2008 SP1
Microsoft Expression Blend 2.0
Microsoft Expression Blend 2.0 SP1

Side note:
The only projects I couldn't open were WPF ones, regular .csproj files could still be opened in Visual Studio 2008.
